NEWWA's Cancellation Policy:
If you cannot attend a NEWWA event you have registered for you must contact NEWWA in writing two business days prior to the start of a program to request a refund or credit minus a $30 administrative fee. If you contact NEWWA within one business day you will be charged 100% of the original course registration fee. This charge is non-refundable and non-transferable. Written refund/credit requests made for special circumstances will be considered if received within 2 weeks from the start date of the program. Credits issued are valid for 6 months from the date of the program.

Title: Class 2A Hoisting License Renewal Class: Excavator Operator
Description: This classroon-based course meets the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety continuing education training requirement for a Class 2A Hoisting License and covers: regulations governing operation (MGL, CMR, OSHA), machine principles (diesel engines, power trains, mechanical, electric and hydraulic systems), machine operating techniques (hand signaling and machine functions; loading; power train and throttle considerations; approach, loading, digging, and stockpiling techniques; trenching and excavation; job planning; machine positioning; and backfilling and grading), and special safety considerations.
Who Should Attend: Anyone needing to renew their 2A Hoisting License

Learning Objectives/Outcomes: Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to: identify requirements of key regulations pertinent to the operation of excavators; differences between gasoline and diesel fuels, gasoline and diesel engines; key operating principles with special emphasis on safety concerns; function and operational considerations for turbocharger lubricants; correct operation of power train. Describe correct procedure for preoperational inspection of the machine; proper way to mount machine, adjust seat belt, start and warm up machine, safely travel machine, load from stockpile, excavate and backfill, shut down the machine properly, trench, backfill and grade, lower blade, lock out controls, dismount.
Learning Outcome/Assessment Method: Upon completion of the classroom segment, you will complete a written assessment of what you have learned. This assessment is comprised of thirty multiple choice/true-false questions drawn directly from the information presented in class. You will complete the assessment on your own. There will be 10 minutes allotted for you to complete the assessment. Once the instructor confirms that everyone is ready to begin a review of the assessment, the will read and review each of the questions in order and noting the correct answer and you can grade your own progress. A pass rate of 70% should be achieved. Answers will be discussed along with references to the sources of information in the MA regulations. You will be permitted to keep you self-assessment for review and reference after the class.
