On Oct. 10, 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the proposed Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. The sector has 60 days from the proposal’s publication in the Federal Register to prepare comments. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler has stated that he intends to finalize the rulemaking in 2020. Since its publication, the current proposal began to influence state primacy agency practice.

The proposed rule will require changes in current practice at all community and nontransient noncommunity water systems. The webinar will introduce the requirements from the point of view of a practitioner attempting to comply with the proposed rule. Issues that practitioners will need to consider include changes in compliance metrics and associated performance as well as the implications of the rule construction on planning and implementation of water system treatment, distribution systems, and public outreach activities.

Learning Objectives:
1. Enable water utility managers to assess how the proposed rule requirements will likely affect them.
2. Equip water utility staff to plan to engage the EPA, states, and their own utilities to move forward in the interim period before the rule is finalized.

This webinar's presenters:
Steve Estes-Smargiassi, MWRA
David Cornwell, Cornwell Engineering
Rebecca Slabaugh, Arcadis
