NEWWA and Water For People

NEWWA supports Water For People, which is a not-for-profit organization that helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and health and hygiene education programs.

NEWWA has a local Water For People Committee, whose main focus is fundraising for Water For People. They do this via a biennial gala, raffle at NEWWA's December Monthly Meeting each year, and a silent auction held each year at NEWWA's annual conference. These efforts have resulted in more than a hundred thousand dollars going to Water For People over the years, helping ensure proper sanitation for thousands in developing countries.

Water For People Gala - 2018

The NEWWA and New England Water Environment Association Water For People Committees join forces every other year to host a gala to raise money for Water For People. Water works professions and friends gathered on May 5th at the Dane Estate in Chestnut Hill, MA, for the Kentucky Derby themed gala. There was food, lawn games, dancing, and a live stream of the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby.

With your help, we’ve raised more than $215,000 for Water For People since the first gala in 2004. In that time, Water For People has grown to become a recognized leader of water and sanitation development.
